Jokers Deep South
I thought I wouldn't see my twenties. Here's a little story for you... 😳In 2004 I flew down to New Orleans for Jazz Fest because I had a serious crush on Lenny Kravitz.Lenny had me under his spell.I danced all day at Jazz Fest, and later I wandered around Bourbon Street soaking up the atmosphere and taking videos with my Sony Handycam. No iPhone back then.At some point, I wandered away from my friends. And I kept walking.Until I found myself on a street that was way too dark, with shady characters hanging around in the shadows who looked like they were either waiting for trouble, creating trouble, or doing deals. There I was, this stupid little nineteen-year-old in Daisy Dukes and a tied tee, walking right down the middle of the street with a video camera in my hand, heading toward the brighter streets in the distance and thinking:Which one of these guys is going to attack me?Then a cab drove through the intersection. It stopped, backed up and the driver yelled, “Get in. Quick.”I sprinted toward him and jumped in.He looked at me and said, “What the fuck were you doing there?”I was shaking so much I couldn’t answer. Then he told me I could have gotten myself killed. And I realized just how lucky I’d been. But somehow, by then, New Orleans had already put a spell on me.I’ve loved that place ever since, and I’ve always loved writing stories set there.I never have enough time to write all the stories constantly floating around in my head, but it feels really good to be back in Louisiana with the Jokers again. This time with my new Jokers Deep South MC books.
